STRIKE collaborating

STRIKE have worked with musicians, theatre groups, dancers, film makers and a range of other artists to devise original new works which stretch the boundaries of both STRIKE and their fellow collaborators' genres.

If skin could Talk: Strike percussion collaborating with the New Zealand School of Dance students

Artistically these projects are very important to STRIKE. Through collaboration with other artforms, STRIKE is exposed to new influences and stimulus, keeping their energy innovative and fresh.

Farr:Blitz

STRIKE joined forces with Gareth Farr and the New Zealand Army Band to present Farr:Blitz — a showcase of Farr's brass and percussion music.

Drum & Bass influenced set

A collaborative project with DJ/producers The Silverbeats created a Drum & Bass influenced set using turntables and live percussion fed through digital processing.

Choreographed percussion

Smashing Sweet Vixen

A collaboration with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company in 1998, resulted in Smashing Sweet Vixen. This Gareth Farr work was a catalyst for the unique direction of STRIKE's subsequent work.

if Skin Could Talk

in 2003 STRIKE collaborated with the NZ School of Dance to devise the acclaimed full-length show if Skin Could Talk.

As Head of the Contemporary Dance Programme at the New Zealand School of Dance, it was a pleasure to offer the students the opportunity to collaborate with STRIKE for the Choreographic Season, If Skin Could Talk. The student choreographers had the opportunity to work directly with the composers to create the perfect score for their work, whilst learning first hand more about music composition in relation to dance composition. The choreographers and dancers were taught drumming skills and participated with STRIKE while members of STRIKE took on movement and became part of the choreography. The long term creative networks that were formed during this process are still functioning several years on. Wendy Wallace
